Why We’re Hoping that VW’s Newly Launched ID. Polo Comes to California Soon

Volkswagen has launched an exciting new small all-electric car called the Volkswagen ID. Polo. So far, it’s only available in Germany, but we’re hopeful – and excited – for it to be introduced here. According to everything we’ve seen, it could make it Stateside before the end of the year, and with gas prices still soaring, it undoubtedly would be very popular with a starting price of about $30,000.

The ID. Polo has a great background. The first VW Polo debuted in 1975 but disappeared in 2018. Now it’s back as a “hot hatch” subcompact electric vehicle, which Volkswagen hopes will set the stage for more and more affordable EVs that will compete with those being offered in China. 

The ID. Polo Packs a Lot into A Small Package

• Multiple power-pack options: 85 kW, 99kW, 155 kW with two battery sizes. Ranges are up to about 280 miles. Standard front-wheel drive. 
• New battery technology reduces weight and charging time at fast-charging stations from 10% to 80% in about 25 minutes with the larger battery. It will be able to power external devices such as e-bikes or outdoor equipment.
• It’s the first VW to adopt the new Volkswagen “Pure Positive” design language, which VW describes as “a compact car with clear proportions, iconic design…a likeable front end and a powerful rear that has a very high-quality, timeless and charismatic appearance.” It’s about 13.25 feet long and 6 feet wide. 
• Interior features high-quality materials and spaciousness. According to VW Designer Andreas Mindt, “…we wanted to create an interior that feels like a friend from the very first encounter.” The digital cockpit has a 10” screen, and the Innovision infotainment system has a 13” screen, easily accessible to both driver and front passenger. Many physical buttons make the ID. Polo more intuitive to operate. A variable luggage compartment floor and fold-down rear seats facilitate hauling gear and luggage. Seating for five. It has an available high-end sound system from Harman Kardon, and available massaging seats.
• Tons of standard safety and driver assistance features, such as Side Assist, Lane Assist with Emergency Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, rear-view camera, park distance control and FronT-Cross Traffic assist. 

From People’s Car to Today’s EV
Volkswagen built its reputation by offering “The People’s Car,” the iconic Beetle. When the VW ID. Polo  comes to America, it will continue that tradition – simple, reliable, inexpensive (by today’s standards) and all-electric. It’s the way things are going in 2026.
