Why the 2025 VW Tiguan Excites Us with Anticipation
While Europe has already gotten a gander at the new Volkswagen Tiguan, over here we’re waiting excitedly for our chance at this third generation of VW’s compact crossover SUV. The current version of the Tiguan is one of the German brand’s best sellers. We think it’s likely that when it gets to Volkswagen of Fairfield early next year it will be even more popular.
The push for more energy-efficient vehicles is playing out in the Tiguan with a new Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV) version, which should be very appealing to Americans wanting to dip their toes into electrification without going all-in.
VW’s Brand Board Member for Technical Development Kai Grünitz said, “Volkswagen is once again democratizing numerous high-tech developments…making them available to hundreds of thousands of drivers.” He’s talking about VW’s Modular Transverse Matrix (MQB evo), which Volkswagen engineers say “improve this new 2025 Tiguan in almost every area.”
All the details aren’t yet available, but what we do know confirms that the 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan has a lot – a LOT – to recommend it:
- New, longer and sleeker contours, including HD multi-pixel matrix LED headlights, redesigned tail lights, expanded cargo space and up to 20” wheels
- Updated engine variants that probably will include a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four; a plug-in hybrid Tiguan that VW says will offer an electric-only range of about 62 miles.
- Faster charging on the PHEV version, including standard fast DC charging.
- New concept and design for the interior: Digital Cockpit with instrumentation in tablet landscape format, 15” infotainment screen with updated menu and graphics, head-up display, a rotary control with a mini screen provides controls for volume, background lighting and more; natural language voice control on several functions through the IDA voice assistant. Some features will be offered as options.
- Abundant driver-assist and safety-assistance features such as lane-changing assistance, Autonomous Emergency Braking, adaptive cruise control, pedestrian detection, lane-keeping assist, rear-view camera system. Optional add-ons include Parking Assist with remote parking capability and Trailer Assist.
- Optional ergoActive Plus seats with lumbar adjustment and 10 air-chamber massage plus seat heating and ventilation choice.
Automotive writers have been enthusiastic about what they’ve learned so far about the 2025 VW Tiguan. TheTechAdvocate.com said it “is anticipated to be a game-changer in the compact SUV segment.” CarAndDriver.com says the 2025 Tiguan is “Adding some much-needed European flair to the crowded compact SUV segment.”
The Germans call it Spannung – we call it excitement. It’s definitely something to look forward to in the New Year at Volkswagen of Fairfield.
