VW Goes Back to the Future with the All-Electric 2025 ID.Buzz Microbus

From see-through computers and TVs to ways to spot autism in infancy, extraordinary innovations to improve our lives keep coming. Count the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz among them. This revolutionary take on the iconic VW Microbus is on TIME Magazine’s list of 2024’s 200 Best Innovations.  

The 2025 VW ID.Buzz harks back to the original VW Type 2 microbus, which first rolled off the assembly line in Germany 75 years ago this month. But the ID.Buzz is all 21st century, now in an all-electric package. And it’s coming to Volkswagen of Fairfield before year-end.

Buzz is about so much more than getting from point A to point B. With its combination of retro looks and modern technology, it creates more smiles per mile on every journey.”

The Microbus’s all-electric journeys are considerable, too. Equipped with a 91-kWh battery, the rear-wheel drive models have 282 horsepower with 234 miles of EPA-estimated range, while 4/Motion® AWD models offer 335 horsepower and 231 miles of EPA-estimated range (zero-to-60 mph in 5.5 seconds!). Volkswagen says it can charge from 10-to-80 percent in 30 minutes.

The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz comes in three trim levels – Pro S, Pro S Plus, and First Edition – three rows and space for either six or seven, depending on whether the second row has bench or captain’s chair seating. 

Flexibility is key for the ID.Buzz. There are adjustable armrests, fold-out tables for rear-seat riders, a removable center console, and a flat floor that handles lots of cargo/gear, which is perfect for families. Car and Driver calls it “the Bees Knees.”

The 2025 VW ID.Buzz goes big on creature comforts and technology, with massaging front seats, ambient lighting, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, and a 10.0-inch digital instrumental cluster. Standard driver-assistance features include forward-collision warning, automated emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
