VW Drives Away with Two Awards for Putting Child Safety First

NOTHING is more important than protecting the children from the consequences of vehicle accidents! Especially since traffic fatalities are rising; this year’s increase has been significant. That’s  why Volkswagen of Fairfield is so happy to report that two VW models have been recognized by Cars.com’s “Best Cars for Car Seats.” 

“At Volkswagen, we know that for many families, choosing a vehicle starts with safety and practicality,” said Vice President of Vehicle Safety, Volkswagen Group of America, Thomas Zorn. “This award reflects our commitment to building vehicles that help make everyday life safer, easier, and more comfortable for parents and caregivers.”

What These Awards Mean

Cars.com compiles 12 months of data from comprehensive Car Seat Checks performed by child passenger safety technicians who install infant, convertible and high-back booster seats in new vehicles. They evaluate the LATCH system and how each type of car seat fits into vehicles that have been supplied by manufacturers. LATCH stands for Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren

The 2025 Volkswagen Atlas got straight As for: 

  • 3-row layout with good access and accessible top tethers
  • Easy-to-find LATCH anchors, stable buckles and space for up to three car seats in the second row equipped with bench seats.
  • The two-row Atlas Cross Sport also earned top marks.

The 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz was a top finisher (A’s and one “B”) for:

  • Wide, flat seats
  • Exposed lower anchors, removable head restraints and easy third-row entry.
  • Being an “EV that’s as practical as it is playful,” according to Cars.com New Editor and certified child passenger safety technician, Jennifer Geiger.

Cars.com launched its Car Seat Checks 15 years ago, evaluating car seats in more than 850 vehicles, meaning choices abound. “When shopping for your next family vehicle, there’s a lot to consider, including what vehicle fits your needs right now as well as in a few years,” Geiger writes. 

That’s important because California law has child safety seat requirements for different ages according to the California Highway Patrol:

  • Children under 2 years of age shall ride in a rear-facing car seat unless the child weighs 40 or more pounds OR is 40 or more inches tall. The child shall be secured in a manner that complies with the height and weight limits specified by the manufacturer of the car seat.
  • ​Children under 8 must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat.
  • Children 8 years of age OR who are 4’9” or taller may be secured by a booster seat, but at a minimum must be secured by a safety belt. (California Vehicle Code Section 27363.)
  • Passengers 16 and over are subject to California’s Mandatory Seat Belt law.
