Volkswagen Is Making Sitting More Comfortable and Less Tiring

Long drives can be uncomfortable and tiring, even if you’re not one of the 3 in 10 Americans who have back pain. This is something that California drivers really understand! Volkswagen’s engineers have come up with some help in the new Volkswagen ID.7 battery electric, midsize sedan: ergoActive premium seats. 

German Innovation Tackles Seat Comfort

While designing the ID.7, special attention was paid to the seats. Working with the German Campaign for Healthier Backs (AGR) and orthopedic doctors, physical therapists and sports scientists, they developed the new ergoActive premium seats. The revolutionary new front seats are optional on the ID.7, available in the American 2025 ID.7 model.

The ID.7’s ergoActive premium seats were developed to combine innovative massage programs, automatic air conditioning and targeted functions for spinal and pelvic muscle groups. Are they effective? The German Campaign for Healthier Backs has certified the ergoActive seats. 

The ID.7’s ergoActive premium seats won’t cure back problems, but they sure will make a trip in the VW ID.7 more pleasurable, especially on long drives.

Comfort that Surrounds

What makes the ID.7’s ergoActive seats so amazing:

• Pelvic activation and massage function, available through touchscreen programs that build up and reduce pressure in air cushions that are built into the backrest padding and seat cushion: 2 air cushions alternately raise the left and right sit bones and 10 air cushions provide pressure-point massage to relax and activate back muscles. There’s a manual adjustment for seat depth (short people will thank VW!), and 12-way adjustment with thigh support. 
• Seat cushions and backrests with separate controls. The ID.7 can automatically sense temperature and moisture levels for both the driver and passenger seat and compare them with other factors to arrive at the optimum settings. Or each front-seat occupant can choose warm, dry or cool “smart climates.”
• Climate-controlled seats that measure temperature wherever the body touches the seat and adjusts ventilation and heating accordingly.
• Programmable functions lasting between 10-30 minutes, so users can match the program to achieve the greatest comfort.
• Easy to use controls on the seat, and the infotainment touchscreen. Plus, second-row seats in the Volkswagen ID.7 EV get three settings for heat, controlled with buttons on the center console. 
• Savable programs so combinations of functions can be repeated without further adjustments.

Being comfortable behind the wheel makes for a more alert driver. And in an electric vehicle like the Volkswagen ID.7, separately heating and cooling seats to the users’ comfort is more efficient than making adjustments to the climate in the entire car.
