Two VW Compact Crossovers Earn Honor Roll Spots for Child Car Seat Safety

August 15th, 2023 by

Parents want to choose the safest child car safety seat they can find, but how easily and safely it will fit in their vehicle often is overlooked. Cars.com, the highly regarded vehicle review and shopping organization, recently named two Volkswagen models to its short list of 2023 “Best Cars for Car Seats.”

The 2023 VW Tiguan compact SUV and the 2023 VW ID.4 all-electric compact SUV both got top-scoring “A” marks in all categories tested by Cars.com:

  • LATCH – Lower anchors and top tether system (second and/or third row)
  • Infant – Rear-facing infant seat
  • RFC – Rear-facing convertible
  • FFC – Forward-facing convertible
  • Booster – High-back booster seat
  • TRA – Third-row access

Cars.com’s Jennifer Geiger, a certified child passenger safety technician and a mom herself who has “gone through every car-seat stage,” has installed child-safety seats in every variety of vehicle. She and her co-tester/mom, Editor-in-Chief Jenni Newman, have tested more than 700 vehicles since their program began in 2010, evaluating them on the ease with which each accommodates the child-safety seats, as well as Latch systems, “which are supposed to make car seat installation easier, but sometimes cause frustrations.”

Three different versions of child safety seats were installed in the vehicle’s second row, locating the booster seat behind the driver’s seat and the two others behind the front-seat passenger. The 2023 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 EV both got straight As.

“For parents looking to purchase an SUV that fits the whole family, be sure to consider Volkswagen’s Tiguan and all-electric ID.4. They not only each sport a sizable backseat without compromising on passenger legroom, installing car seats is painless—with both easily acing our Car Seat Check. Exposed Latch anchors make for convenient access, and their seat belt buckles are incredibly user-friendly—even for children in booster seats,” Geiger said.

Volkswagen Group of America Vice President of Vehicle Safety Thomas Zorn said, “This recognition is a testament to the care taken in the research and development of our vehicles regarding the areas of safety and functionality.”

Safety matters to us at Volkswagen of Fairfield – we’re parents, too – so we’re very proud to offer these two SUVs, straight-A members of Cars.com’s 2023 “Best Cars for Car Seats” honor roll.
