California drivers love their SUVs and increasingly want them electrified. Volkswagen has the perfect answer in the new, 5-seat, 2023 VW ID.4. Not only is it fast, roomy, and fabulous looking, but it also qualifies for tax credits of up to $7,500 – California’s and federal under the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). We call that a win-win-win-win-win.
According to the experts at Edmunds.com, “The Volkswagen ID.4 is a solid pick for an electric SUV thanks to its easy-to-drive nature, roomy seating and value. Its real-world range also exceeds expectations in both single- and dual-motor varieties.
The Volkswagen ID.4 comes in multiple versions. Each version except the ID.4 Standard comes with either rear-wheel (RWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD).
Superior compared to most other EV SUVs: starting under $40k and on a short list of vehicles eligible for both California and federal EV tax credits.
EPA-Estimated range from 209 to 275 miles; AWD versions get slightly lower ranges than RWD
Either 201 hp (RWD models) or 295 hp (AWD models) with zero-60 mph in under six seconds
From 10-80% in 38 minutes or less at a DC public fast charger; a big feature is 3 years unlimited 30-minute charging sessions at Electrify America Fast Chargers
Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive advanced drivers assistance technology, LED headlights and taillights (ID.4 S and above trim levels get Premium LED projector headlights with AFS, illuminated lightline and illuminated front & rear logo); 5-Star Overall Crash Test rating from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration and 2023 Top Safety Pick+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
Standard 12-inch touchscreen, standard automated parking system
The Edmunds experts drove the ID.4 in an earlier model and compared it to the Ford Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y. One of them wrote this: “I drive the VW and it just feels right. The acceleration curve is smooth, the suspension does a good job absorbing bumps, it feels well built … I couldn’t help but think that it felt like I was in a German luxury car. The cabin was rattle-free and quiet and driving down the road felt substantial.”
The Volkswagen ID.4 also maneuvers very easily. An Edmunds senior editor wrote: “Making a U-turn is no problem in our ID.4. It’s shockingly easy, in fact.” Compare the ID.4’s turning radius of 31.5 feet with a Tesla Model Y’s (39.8 feet) or a Toyota RAV4 (36.1).
Volkswagen of Fairfield is very proud to offer the Volkswagen ID.4. With an ID.4 our customers have both the freedom to continue driving throughout the Golden State while reducing their carbon footprint. Watch for VW’s intriguing electric bus, the ID.Buzz in the near future!
